Our local Open the Doors campaign was a great success!
In the last two years, the Provincial Government has removed tuition-free Adult Upgrading and tuition free English as a Second Language. These decisions, along with flat government funding, have forced College of the Rockies to impose yet another tuition fee increase, to start charging fees for adult upgrading and ESL, and to raise other ancillary fees. Many students have been impacted by these decisions.
In the first part of our local Open the Doors project, CORFA gave away 60 bursaries of $500 to COTR students who shared their stories with us.
The second part of the campaign was the creation of an eBook to share the stories of some of our award recipients, and videos to further emphasize the plight of our most vulnerable students.

In addition to the Bursary Contest, members of the CORFA Executive spent some time talking to people and collecting Education Pledges on behalf of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators. Over 18,000 people signed the education pledge in only 6 months and they were presented into the BC legislature on March 15, 2017.
